HUGH LAURIE | FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX

Hugh plays Ian, a somewhat pompous, uptight businessman who is one of the survivors of the plane crash. He helps all the other survivors to build a new plane they name the Phoenix to fly them out of the desert. If you haven't seen the original movie, then you get a feeling going into this that Ian is a bad guy or that, somehow, he was responsible. But he isn't really a bad bad guy. He's just kind of a jerk. I didn't like the movie overall. It felt rushed and it seemed to keep setting up and building up tension that never panned out. Both with Hugh's character and Giovanni Ribisi's. I kept waiting for the big reveal that one of them was an arms dealer who was setting this whole thing up or something along those lines and none of that ever really happened. In fact, there really was no bad guy-- if you don't count the environment itself. Plus, the ending was somewhat cheesy and it ended so quickly that when the credit came up I was like, "that's it?!" But, hey, we get to see Hugh without his shirt on, and that's always a good thing. So put the movie on mute and fast-forward to Hugh's parts. ; )
