VIDEO QUESTIONS & ISSUES...
MUSIC VIDEOS
Ø How do I download and play these things?
Well first, you need to have 2 very important things. And no matter how I stress that you need them, inevitably someone will mail me screaming about how the vids don't work. So read carefully:
- You must have a media player that can play .wmv files and .mpg files (most media players do but just make sure).
- You must have the proper and most current codecs installed on your comp. I use hdtv clips to create my vids and vid clips and without the proper codecs, the vid can look shaky, upside down or won't download at all in some cases. Many people don't understand what these are and, rather than explaining it to you, just trust me when I say they're awesome, they're free and you should have them to play any video you download.
- Right-click on the 'download' link and choose to save to your computer.
- Drag them into your media player and watch.
I also have all the music vids available on YouTube.
Ø Genuine problems with vids... or you may just be retarded.
If you're receiving an error that you don't think has to do with your player, try re-downloading the file. The server may be busy. Or maybe you just got a glitchy download. If it still isn't working, then I have no idea!
Ø What do you use to make vids?
I use Sony Vegas in the latter half of the vids. Before that I was using ULead which I hated because it would constantly crash and it often saved transitions differently than how I'd created them. If you see any of my earlier vids with scenes that looked choppy, that's why.
Ø All about stealing.
While clip theft is evil and wrong, it's almost more insulting and rude for someone to steal the layout, song or style of my vids. It happened with my HHr site more times than I could count and I'm hoping the HC fandom is better than that. It's inevitable that we may use the same songs once in a while as I'm sure some of us will like the same music styles. But it's pretty obvious when someone basically rips off my entire idea and uses clips in the same sequence. Don't do it.
Ø Can I submit a vid to you?
Nope, sorry. I'm super possessive of my server space and want it all for myself...muahahahhaa. Actually, I just don't have the time to deal with other people's vids. I barely have time for my own.
Ø Can I submit a song rec to you?
Sure, but I'm super picky. Don't be offended if I don't use it or don't even like it. I have very weird music tastes and when I hear a song I like... I just know. Please feel free to send me recs though as I always love looking out for my new favorite song.

EPISODE/TV/MOVIE CLIPS
Ø When do you post episode clips?
I usually have all clips up on this site within a half an hour, give or take, after the show is over. I announce that the clips are ready on the House_Cameron Live Journal.
Ø Why do you post clips of scenes other than HCam?
Some scenes are just hilarious or really touching and/or are key to the overall plot and I know people will really want to see them. I post Cuddy/Wilson scenes mostly just because I love Cuddy/Wilson. But other than that, it's HC all the way. Some people have mailed asking why I thought 'that clip' was shippy or that I was 'reaching'. Note that the clips aren't all necessarily romantic clips. I make a lot of these so people can use them for HC music vids and just having footage of them together is sometimes useful. I like the way Hugh and Jen work off each other, even in miscellaneous scenes, so I enjoy posting even some of the more irrelevant moments. However, since the show has become stupid and HCam seems to be over, I'm not posting clips unless they're truly romantic or shippy. House and Cameron being snarky or being in the same room together for 30 seconds does not equal shippy. It's simply too much work to keep doing clips for something that probably isn't going to happen any time soon. Not to mention that I feel the whole show has sort of becomea slap in the face to its fans.
Ø Can I request a clip?
I used to but because of overwhelming amounts of requests now, I simply can't. I'd end up posting the entire episode. Unless you think I missed a House/Cameron scene (please let me know and I'll load that immediately), I won't post random requested clips anymore.
Ø I missed the show... can you please upload the entire thing?
I DO NOT POST FULL EPISODES. There are many reasons for this that I don't need to get into. I just don't. There are plenty of places you can download the episodes in their entirety and, if you use your imagination, you'll figure it out. Otherwise, you'll have to wait and buy the DVDs along with everyone else.
Ø Can you please make clips of Huddy, Chameron or some other squicky pairing or character I know you hate? Or how about for the bestest and my most favoritest character in the world, 13?!!!!eleventy!!!11
Um, no. I hate both of those pairings and hope they die a thousand deaths. 13 sucks big hard monkey balls. This is an HCam site, therefore, only HC-focused scenes are posted. It's bad enough I have to watch it on the show, I won't force myself to sit through making clips of these incredibly annoying scenes. That doesn't mean I don't like Cuddy or Chase. I do... just not with House and Cameron, respectively. 13, again, sucks hard monkey balls. Big ones.
Ø How do you make the clips?
I record the show directly to my computer as it airs. At each commercial, I stop recording. I then use a compression program that saves that large television recording file into a workable windows media format. When the commercial is over, I begin recording and, again, stop at the commercial and begin the process again. When the show is over, I then cut all my favorite clips from those .wmv files using a fantastic program called Video Splitter.
Ø Why don't you have .mpg versions of the clips anymore?
Because they're insanely large and take a really long time to download for anyone who has a slower connection.
Ø Can I use the clips? i.e, HOW TO CREDIT!
You may use the clips for music videos and to make fanart. You don't need to credit me in your video or directly on your artwork, but I would like to see my link somewhere...in your video description, fanart description, etc. I've noticed a few people crediting me as 'Jennifer Designs' or "KateJ's website" and, while I appreciate the effort, that doesn't really tell people where to find the clips. Jennifer Designs is simply the website's host, not my House/Cam website itself! People going there will not find a link to the site. So please use 'House Loves Cameron' along with a link to the site. I put a lot of work into these and I don't think I'm asking for that much in return.
If nothing else, it would be really nice to get a thank you or just drop me a line to let me know you used them. It's kind of annoying when I see half the fandom using my clips and I have maybe 5 people mail me letting me know.

THE 'ALL THE ETC.' SECTION
FANFIC
Ø How often do you update your favs?
Whenever I have a substantial bunch (usually 50). I work a lot and have a life so I can only read so much, so fast.
Ø What types of fic do you like?
It really depends on the pairing. I can still remember the first fanfic I ever read. It was in 1991 on a really old computer (still used DOS-- oy!). I've read more fic than I think any person should ever, ever admit to. I have some experience with enjoying all different kinds of fic genres and I'm at a place now where there's a specific type I like. I used to love angsty fics, back in the X-Files days. There was nothing better than angsty, sad M+S. Over the years, though, I've gotten kind of tired of being strung along in fics worse than, sometimes, the shows themselves.
At this point, my preference is for happier fics-- not necessarily fluffy but just fics where we get to see a good resolution and you aren't left hanging. I feel like fic is where we go to escape the crap we have to deal with on the show itself. Creating 'conflict' is fine; a lot of wonderful fics deal with the problems HC face in their relationship. But when it involves them cheating on each other, hurting one another or being generally cold I feel like you've completely lost the point of what fanfic should be. I get that authors are trying to be realistic and trying to write very well and keep it canon, etc., but if I wanted to be frustrated and pissed off, I could just watch the show. I wouldn't need to take time out and read something that will hopefully strengthen my love for HC. I shouldn't have to read a House-Cameron fic that results in me hating the pairing!
However, I'll read anything once and a fic that's well-written can get away with quite a bit. I do love some angst-- usually angst that revolves around the plot itself, not the pairing-- but I generally prefer fluffier, fun fics. Fics that show them having a good time together, enjoying one another, smutty fic, etc. I'm not into reading 'deep thoughts' fic, either, where the author tries to prove how clever they are with alliteration and metaphor and forgets the point of the story and who the characters are. I also hate Mary Sue fics, where we're introduced to House's neice, Cameron's sister, old boy/girlfriends, secret children and/or any other character the author makes up themselves. STOP IT! For the love of God, stop it. Less is more... anything that detracts from House and Cameron is usually bad. Again, this is a general thing... not always.
I also don't tend to like songfics, fics that use tacky language (I just hate the word "juices" and find it used often in smut fic. Eww. "Her womanly folds," "his love muscle" or any other icky, squint-inducing phrases can easily distract me from the fic), and, more than anything else, I ABSOLUTELY HATE House with any other woman. It's some sort of weird possessive thing I have with the men in ships. I had the same problems with Mulder, Harry, and every other pairing I've ever liked. I just can't stand them with any other women. For instance, I used to like Cuddy; I found her funny and smart (not so much anymore). But the idea of her with House makes me wish a terrorist would show up at PPTH and accidentally kill her... a lot. A lot, a lot. And it's funny because I can even take House with Wilson more. There's just something about House with another woman that makes me insane. So to see it in a fic is even worse. For me, it's practically blasphemy.
Ø Can I rec you a fic? Can I pimp my own?
I'm no longer updating the site so I'm no longer reading HC fic. Sorry!
Ø Annoyances in the fic world.
- As I said above, Mary Sues, songfics, tacky language and House/Cameron with other characters. There are some exceptions, but for the most part... just no.
- People who take fic too seriously. It's fic-- it should be fun.
- People who criticize authors so badly that it makes them fear writing again. Not everyone is an English major so to pick apart their story because of your own personal preferences is really just rude an uneccessary. Pointing out a misspelled word or a line that sounds awkward is one thing, and there's a way to do it without being condescending and mean. I don't care how 'honest' you're trying to be, it still makes you an asshole. Unless the author specifically asks for you to tear it apart, keep your fucking mouth shut. If you don't like it, move along.
- So unfair, I know, but I hate waiting for fics to continue. Especially my favs. I can't expect writers to be robots and get everything done in 2 days but there's nothing worse than getting into a fic and then it doesn't update in 3 months. I wish more authors wrote out the entire fic first then post a chapter a night or something. I used to write fic and, trust me, I know how hard it is and the pressure you have on you to not only finish but to make it good. But, damn, it sucks waiting! I guess that's a sign that you should be flattered we love it so much!
- People who desperately beg for reviews. If your fic is good, people will review it without you telling them that you refuse to write another chapter unless you get reviews. It's one thing to ask 'please r/r!' and it's another to pathetically beg for acceptance.
- Authors who put comment notes in the middle of their fics, usually in parentheses, and completely annoying. If you have to explain something, then you should think about rewriting the passage.
- Authors who continue to misspell the character's names. Alisen, Greggory, Stacey, etc. This is just annoying. C'Mon now... you should know these basics, people!
- People who don't give links to other chapters within the story. Some stories go on for multiple chapters and the only way to find each one is to search through someone's LJ. Grr... post on ff.net or at least put links/tags for easy finding!

MUSIC
Ø Why don't you post every song played on the show- why only a few?
I'm not going to download every song aired. These are really just my fav songs.
Ø How do you get the themes from the show?
I take the clip where it aired and rip the audio from it using Virtual Dub, which saves it as a .wav file. I then use a program I have to loop the theme as many times as I want and resave as an MP3.
Ø Can I send you a fanmix to post on your site?
As of now, no. I barely have time to make my own.

Hey! I try really hard but I'm aware there are many, many,.... many, many artists out there who are insanely amazing and my stuff look like day old crap in comparison. But it's the thought that counts and some people enjoy them. I'm getting better. I'm not as atrocious as I used to be. So ha!
Ø Can I use your icons?
First, I'm flattered that you'd even want to. Yes, absolutely you can use my icons. If someone asks, let them know I made them. Or you can put my lj name in your keywords, but it isn't really necessary. Just don't claim them as your own.
Ø Can I use your banners/headers?
Yes. Feel free to use them. However there are a few rules:
1. DO NOT remove my name from the art and do not claim them as your own.
2. Banners may NOT be edited. If there's something, like your name, you'd like to add, I may be okay with that as long as it's tasteful and doesn't give the impression that you made the banner. So putting 'Banner by me, Julie!' is a no-no.
3. Please mail me (katejones123@aol.com) or comment to my LJ post that you're taking one to use.

Fandom Experience: I've been in one fandom or another since the early 1990s. I'm an old fandom hag and know my way around. ; ) I've run lots of sites at this point, written fanfic, done vids,... you name it. It's always nice to enter new fandoms, though, cause I get to start all over. I always inevitably find someone who knows me in each fandom. It's nice.

I've run or helped run other sites in the very distant past that I doubt anyone would remember now, and nothing I'm still associated with, including X-Files, ER, Buffy, Alias, Star Trek: TNG, Profiler, Dark Angel, Etc. You may recognize my name from more recent fansites VartanHo.com (The Safe House), an Alias/Michael Vartan website, or TeamVoldemort.com, a website that focused on the backlash of Harry Potter Book 6, and HarryLovesHermione.com which was an extremely large, fandom-known Harry Potter shipper site that is now on permanent hiatus.

- Movies: I love mystery/adventure. National Treasure, Oceans 11, Da Vinci Code, etc. I love 'fun' mysteries. The notebook is my favorite romance (and I know it's wrong, but I love that Rachael and Ryan are together in real life more than anyone should). I'll always watch While You Were Sleeping whenever it plays on cable. I shouldn't admit it, but I'll watch- and probably like-- anything Keanu Reeves is in. I like any movie with Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman or Dakota Fanning. All great actors and I've yet to watch anything they've been in that I didn't like. I also LOVE Ed Norton, but he's made some stinkers lately. There was a time when he was my favorite actor.
My favorite actual movies are The Usual Suspects, The Last Seduction, The Sixth Sense, Run Lola Run, and a few others that I can't quite remember right now. Howard the Duck remains my cult fav. Freakin' classic, man. It's a duck that talks and plays guitar. C'Mon!!
- Food: Chinese. Though I make my own nacho/taco salad and that's probably my favorite thing that I personally make. Otherwise, I love chow mein. and butterfly fried shrimp. and egg rolls. I realized after moving to Phoenix that the west coast has a COMPLETELY different idea of what Chinese food is. No offense, but you guys put sauce on noodles (they aren't even chow mein noodles!) and you call it chow mein. Um, no. It may be more authentically Chinese, but I like American-Chinese. Plus, you're hard pressed to find egg rolls. NOT spring rolls- egg rolls. Egg rolls are big and friend and have cabbage and shrimp and celery and pork in them. I missed Chinese food so much while I was gone!
Ships: I'm an obsessive multi-shipper. I've admitted that I have a problem. Even as a kid I was always a shipper for one thing or another. Here are some of my more current fav ships:

Ø What browsers can I use to view the site?
I made the site for Firefox browsers, but you can also use IE, Opera, Netscape and AOL (and more, I'm sure). However, Netscape and IE tend to make fonts larger than intended, create extra spaces/remove spaces that should be there, etc. It's still viewable but probably doesn't look exactly as it should. Firefox is really the best browser to use.
Ø What will I find/won't I find on the site?
You'll find video clips, artwork, fanfic, music, music vids, and links pertaining to the House/Cameron pairing. You'll also find various work by Jennifer Morrison and Hugh Laurie. I do not ship for Hugh/Jen and, in fact, find that kinda creepy. But I do like to see their other work in television and movies because I love them!

I like the basic setup of the site so I don't think that will change. But I love to play around with banners.
Ø The disappearing guestbook link...
When I first started the site I really didn't intend to do more than music videos. I thought it would be a 2 or 3 page site (in fact, I promised myself I'd keep it small because I was tired of running large, fandom websites, which I've been doing for about 10 years now). I created each individual page with site links rather than using a frame or .css. However, like an idiot, I once again went nuts and started all sorts of sections. So now I have about 300 pages to the site and having to go back and put the guestbook link on every single one is, like, a nightmare. So you'll see in in the intro page of each section, as well as on some misc. pages. But in many of the ETC section pages, it will be missing. Someday when I have time I'll go back and add it.
